Roundup: How Butler County municipalities voted in contested races
The following is a roundup of unofficial results from a number of contested races in Butler County municipalities on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Democrat Chad J. DeCaria competed for a six-year seat on the board of supervisors in Brady Township, winning against Republican Rick Hutchison.
DeCaria won the race with 143 votes, or 52% of the total 270 votes. Hutchison received 90 votes, or 33%.
Hutchison advanced to the general election after winning the nomination for the Republican Party in May against current Supervisor Darlene J. Covert.
Incumbents Phil Wulff and Ed Latuska won reelection to the Center Township board of supervisors against former supervisor Ron Flatt.
The three candidates ran for two six-year supervisor seats.
Of a total 3,741 votes, Wulff took 1,361, or 36%, while Latuska took 1,295 votes and Flatt took 1,061 votes.
Incumbent supervisor Michael Haid won reelection to the two-year supervisor position in Donegal Township against challenger Donna Scherer.
Haid won 267 of the total 461 votes, or 57%, while Scherer took 193 votes.
A six-year term on the board was up for grabs as well, but the race was uncontested. It was won by Ryan Ritzert.
Business owner Joe Schubert beat incumbent Robert Thompson for the six-year term on the Franklin Township board of supervisors.
Of 851 votes, Schubert won with 592 votes, 69%, cast in his favor. Thompson received 253 votes, or 29%.
Schubert won a three-candidate race that included Thompson in the May 16 primary for the Republican nomination, but Thompson received enough write-in votes to appear on the Democratic ballot for a six-year term as supervisor.
Incumbent Jay Grinnell won the race for a six-year term on the Jackson Township board of supervisors.
Grinnell, a Republican, beat newcomer Christopher C. Arnold, a Democrat.
Grinnell won the seat with 901 votes out of 1,484 total, or 60%. Arnold took 582 votes, or 39%.
The single seat on the Middlesex Township board of supervisors was won by incumbent Robert Brash.
Brash, a Republican, beat his challenger David McMaster, a Democrat.
Brash took the seat with 1,130 votes out of a total 1,874, or 60%, while McMaster took 739 votes, or 39%.
Adam D. Hughes, a Democrat, won the six-year seat on the Venango Township board of supervisors against Michael J. Klinger, a Republican.
Hughes won the seat with 92 votes out of 172, or 53% of the total. Klinger took 80 votes, or 46%.
