Karen Dunn receives DAISY Award for her work at Butler VA
Karen Dunn, a registered nurse with the VA Butler Healthcare System, was honored on Nov. 2 with the DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs, which aim to recognize the super-human efforts that nurses perform every day, according to the Butler VA.
“Being nominated by a veteran means so much to me, and it is the most meaningful award I have ever received,” said Dunn, a nurse of 30 years. “Caring for veterans, our nation’s heroes, is an honor and a privilege.”
The nomination submitted read in part, “Karen is always developing creative arts classes that keep my hands from getting stiff. During classes she comes around to see if you need help or a break. She makes sure that with my limitations the instructors will give me extra help without me feeling embarrassed. ... I am so thankful to have her work at our local VA!”
