Fire damages duplex on E. Locust Street

One unit of a duplex on E. Locust Street in Butler was damaged in an early morning fire Sunday, Nov. 12.

A Butler firefighter said there were two people in the building when the fire started at around 1:15 a.m. After Butler firefighters arrived on scene, several other departments were dispatched, including Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Herman Volunteer Fire Company, Chicora VFD, Penn Township VFD, East Butler VFC, and VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services. Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.

Butler firefighters said it took about an hour to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the duplex are still under investigation.

Firefighters were on scene for about two-and-a-half hours total. Firefighters also said they drove through E. Locust Street again Sunday morning to check for any flames, but none were evident.

Butler firefighters said the Red Cross is aiding the tenants of the duplex while the damage is cleared.
