Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo was nominated for Mayor of the Year for a second time in a row by borough council.

The nomination was discussed at a workshop meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

“I’m honored that borough council would decide to nominate me a second consecutive time, and I consider the nomination a reflection of not only my work, but of our collective work,” he said Wednesday.

The award is presented by the Pennsylvania State Mayors' Association.

The association will deliberate on nominations in early 2024, Longo said.

Longo said he works to support local and new businesses and to keep a balanced budget without raising taxes.

He said Wednesday that taxes have not been raised since he took office.

Furthermore, Longo said council is discussing amending an existing ordinance to reduce the mayoral $1,200 stipend to zero, allowing for room in the budget for things like road maintenance or overtime hours for police officers and road crews, he said.

Longo said he has donated his salary each year since taking office.

Discussion also is continuing around the $50,000 surplus in the borough budget, Longo said.

“Those discussions are still being had,” Longo said. “It’s very exciting.”

Discussion around the borough’s proposed amendment to its noise ordinance will continue into its next borough meeting, where council may vote on the issue.
