Bicyclist killed by vehicle on Route 19 in Cranberry Township late Tuesday
A 22-year-old bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle late Tuesday, Nov. 21, on Route 19 at St. Francis Way in Cranberry Township, according to police.
The crash occurred in the northbound lane of Route 19 around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Cranberry Township police Chief Kevin Meyer said Wednesday morning.
The Allegheny County Medical examiner identified the victim as Arron Jones of Cranberry.
A preliminary investigation indicates the male bicyclist was hit from behind at the time of the collision, Meyer said. The driver of the vehicle was cooperative on scene, he added.
“There’s nothing to indicate this was anything other than a horrible accident,” Meyer said.
Meyer said the bicyclist was transported to Allegheny General Hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.
Traffic was reduced to one lane as police investigated the crash.
Cranberry Township police are still investigating the crash and said they will not be releasing information about the driver or the bicyclist at this time, according to Meyer.
Cranberry Township police, volunteer fire company and EMS services responded to the scene.
