Deer rescued by firefighters Friday in Father Marinaro Park
Mike Parisi was walking his dog in Father Marinaro Park in Butler early Friday morning, Nov. 24, when he discovered a deer stuck in a soccer net.
“I let (my dog loose), we were throwing the ball around … when she saw (the deer), she kind of ran toward it.”
His first thought was to call the local authorities: specifically, the Butler Bureau of Fire.
“I figured if they can rescue a cat from a tree, they can rescue a deer from a net,” he said. “I was going to do it myself, but I didn’t have a knife.”
The deer was a young doe, according to Parisi, and the local firefighters were shocked to hear about its predicament.
“I don’t know if they were taken aback,” he said. “Within 10 minutes of me making a phone call, they were there.”
Parisi said all the firefighters who showed up were interested in freeing the deer.
“They brought two engines,” he said. “I think every one of them came down; they were very curious.”
It took a few moments for the firefighters to cut the deer loose, and once they did, Parisi said it “took off.”
“I just thought it was something nice. They don’t get enough recognition … it was a very kind thing for them to do,” he said. “At least now, it ain’t gonna die in a net, all tangled up.”
