Slippery Rock Township discusses ways to match state grant

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Supervisors agreed to apply for a grant to fund a drainage improvement project along Kiester Road at a meeting Monday, Nov. 27.

In August, the township received a $790,000 state grant to widen Kiester Road, with the stipulation that the township would be responsible for matching 30% — or roughly, $237,000 — of the funds.

To match the grant, supervisors will apply for a Butler County Use Fee Grant.

Following the meeting, board chairman Paul Dickey said supervisors would request the entire 30% needed to match the state grant received in August. The township may or may not receive the funds, he said.

Supervisors also agreed to waive fees associated with renting the Slippery Rock Community Building on Branchton Road for township-supported entities, such as the Slippery Rock Community Library.

The township still would charge a refundable cleaning deposit.

Supervisors also motioned to authorize a payment of $4,420 to Interstate Pipe and Supply for culvert replacement on East Crossbow Drive.
