Smith

Dwight William Smith, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023.

Dwight was born on Monday, March 5, 1956, in Slippery Rock, to William Finley and Nora Mae (Dunlap) Smith. He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1974 and graduated from Slippery Rock University, with a degree in music therapy, in 1982. After graduating from college, Dwight became a music therapist and employed a variety of instruments while helping his patients. He was an exceptional guitar player. Dwight went on two mission trips to Belize to teach at-risk children how to swim and enjoy the water.

Dwight married Cheryl L. Allen. They were active in the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, sharing their music abilities and other duties.

After moving to Sarasota, Dwight worked for the Sarasota Catering Company. He retired from there in 2022. Dwight and Cheryl were also very engaged with their church in Sarasota.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Jody L. Smith, and a grandchild, Iggy. He is also survived by one sister, Penny L. (Paul) Lawrence of Mercer; and two brothers, Harold B. (Karen) Smith of Grove City and David A. (Terry) Smith of Harrisville; along with several nieces and nephews.

SMITH — A celebration of life service for Dwight William Smith, who died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Christ Venice Church in Venice, Fla.
