Bernstine running for reelection

Aaron Bernstine is a state representative representing the 8th Legislative District, which includes Butler and Lawrence counties.

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-8th, said he is running for reelection in 2024 to fight back against what he said is a “destructive liberal agenda” in Harrisburg.

A founding member of the Freedom Caucus, Bernstine said he has a strong record of voting to reduce excessive government spending and cut taxes, protect constitutional rights, defend the integrity of our elections and improve opportunities for job creators.

“The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is currently controlled by radical liberals, and they’ve shown they will stop at nothing to try and destroy our state. Now more than ever, it’s critical we send committed conservative Republicans to Harrisburg who will stand strong against their attacks and expose the real intentions of their ideas,” Bernstine said.

Bernstine said he supported legislation that would have removed the requirement to obtain a permit to carry a concealed firearm and stopped attempts to pass red flag laws. Red flag laws allow family and law enforcement to petition court for the temporary confiscation of a person’s firearms if that person is deemed to be a risk to themselves or others.

He said he supported efforts to ban abortion, including recent attempts to ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected and those linked to Down syndrome.

Bernstine said he has declined pension plans and perks designed by career politicians and supports the proposed Taxpayer Protection Act. He said he supported the law eliminating the asset tax.

He said he has supported legislation to keep criminals behind bars when they commit violent acts while incarcerated, bills to address the nursing shortage, ban drag shows in public areas and those accessible to minors and prohibit taxpayer-funded lobbying.

He said he supported a lawsuit that asked the court to strike down Act 77 and rule no-excuse mail-in voting unconstitutional, and he continues to advocate for voter identification and election integrity.

Bernstine was first elected in 2016. He is a small-business owner and farmer who lives in New Galilee with his wife, Ilia, and their three children. House members are elected to two-year terms.

The 8th District includes Brady, Center, Clay, Connoquenessing, Forward, Franklin, Lancaster, Middlesex, Muddy Creek, Penn and Worth townships and Connoquenessing, Portersville, Prospect, West Liberty and West Sunbury boroughs in Butler County, and parts of Lawrence County.
