Snow blankets Butler County Tuesday
Portions of Butler County saw more than 2 inches of snow Tuesday morning, Dec. 19, but officials at the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said the Christmas weather won’t last long.
According to Jason Frazier, meteorologist with the service, said reports from Harrisville show nearly 2.5 inches of snow, West Sunbury reported 1.5 inches, and Cranberry Township saw only half an inch.
“It was a situation that some probably got more than others given the on and off showers,” he said.
Less than an inch is expected to accumulate from scattered snowfall throughout Tuesday, Frazier said.
“You’re not going to see much sun today. There may be a tiny bit of (snow) melting, but not too much,” he said. “The snow will go away tomorrow, with sunshine coming out.”
The sunshine is expected to stick around through the holiday, according to Frazier, with temperatures in the mid-50s, and a white Christmas is unlikely.
“Unfortunately, at this time, it’s probably not favoring that,” he said.
Despite the warm ground, Frazier said drivers should use caution on the wet roadways.
“The most concern would be with the morning commute. Crews have been out treating, so the roads are just wet. Take it slow, give yourself a little extra time,” he said.
