SRU marching band to perform in London parade Jan. 1

More than 140 members of Slippery Rock University’s marching band are traveling to England on Dec. 28 to perform in London’s New Year’s Day Parade.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students— not only to travel overseas with your closest friends, but to showcase your talents for the world,” said Jonathan Helmick, associate professor of music and director of the Marching Pride. “Receiving this invitation really shows that SRU and our Music Department have an international reputation.”

The 2-mile route for London's New Year's Day Parade starts on Piccadilly at noon on Jan. 1 before reaching Parliament Square near the Palace of Westminster and the Big Ben clock tower.

The Marching Pride will perform the SRU fight song, the theme from “Rocky” and, for their finale performance, “Make Me Smile, by the rock band Chicago.

Updates and photos from the Marching Pride's trip will be posted on SRU's Facebook page.
