Cranberry Township named the safest small town in U.S.
Cranberry Township was recently ranked the ninth safest small town in the United States, according to MoneyGeek.
The study used four data points — crime cost per capita, violent crime rate, property crime rate and cost of crime — to rank 1,010 communities between 30,000 and 100,000 residents.
Cranberry Township showed a crime cost per capita of $78, a per capita violent crime rate of 17 per 100,000 residents, and a per capita property crime rate of 888 per 100,000 residents, and total crime cost of $2.683 billion.
The $78 compares to an average per-capita cost of crime in small cities of $1,155 in 2022.
“Cranberry’s commitment to keeping the community safe is getting national attention,” a Thursday announcement on the township’s website said.
Another Western Pennsylvania community, Mount Lebanon, was also included on the list of the 25 safest small towns and cities. It’s per-capita crime cost was $94, it’s per capita violent crime rate was 42 per 100,000 residents, it’s per capita property crime rate was 337 per 100,000 residents, and the total crime cost was $3.12 billion.
