Butler County reminds citizens to properly dispose of their holiday trees
Areas throughout Butler County are providing options for reusing and recycling cut Christmas trees after the holidays.
The Seneca Landfill Compost Site, 421 Hartmann Road, Evans City, will accept trees during normal operating hours through Jan. 31 for $5. Call 724-625-9000 for more information.
Penn Township will host tree drop offs at the leaf collection site behind the Fire Department from Dec. 26 to Jan. 13. Call 724-586-1165 for more information.
The Slippery Rock Community Park will host a collection site at the opposite end of the parking lot from the park office, near the tree line. The drop-off runs through Jan. 15. Call 724-794-8180 for more information.
Other communities may also host curbside pickup programs or collection sites for their residents, according to a news release from the county’s department of recycling and waste management. These can be found by calling local municipalities buildings for details.
Depending on local regulations, a tree can be kept and used as in a brush pile to give resting areas for birds and small animals. Also, owners of private ponds may be interested in using sunken trees as a refuge and feeding area for fish.
