Butler County’s Salvation Army has raised $79,000 of their $92,000 goal.

Nationwide, the number of GivingTuesday donations to nonprofits declined by 10% this year compared to 2022, according to GivingTuesday Data Commons. Locally, The Salvation Army is seeing an increased need for services, but some locations are seeing a drastic decline in donations.

Donations can be made by donating to the red kettle buckets, which can be found in Walmart, Sam’s Club and other local locations. Additionally, donations can either be made online or at the organization’s local facility at 313 W. Cunningham St.

New this year, donations also can be made by texting the word “kettle” to 31333. Donors can then reply with their ZIP code to ensure the donation goes to their local Salvation Army.

In addition to Butler County Salvation Army, The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania’s division has raised more than $1.6 million across 28 counties, almost 72% of the total fundraising goal of $2.345 million.

“These final days of the Red Kettle Campaign are crucial, as the donations we receive now will help sustain our services and programs all year long,” said Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania. “Without these generous gifts, our ability to effectively meet the needs of our community will be difficult. We are so grateful for the support.”
