Firefighters responded to a house at 218 5th Ave. in Butler at around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, Dec. 26 to find black smoke coming from the back of the house.

They forced entrance to the basement where a gaming chair was burning, and firefighters extinguished the blaze relatively quickly, according to Jonathan Feicht, a firefighter with the Butler Bureau of Fire.

“It was a single-family home — fire maintained to the basement,” Feicht said. “The extinguish was in the first 20 minutes. It was a quick turnaround.”

Feicht said the family who lived at the home was standing on the other side of the street when firefighters arrived. He said they called 911 themselves.

According to Feicht, no one was injured in the blaze, and the family was likely able to reenter the home later on that Christmas Day.

In addition to Butler Bureau of Fire, the VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services and Butler Township Volunteer Fire District also responded to the call. A report from Butler County dispatch said the scene was cleared after about an hour and a half.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
