Postal inspectors investigate Christmas Eve mail theft
Postal Inspectors are investigating multiple collection box break-ins that occurred on Christmas Eve at post offices in Cranberry Township, Ingomar and Wexford.
The United States Postal Inspection Service also noted break-ins at business plazas in Cranberry and Wexford.
“Inspectors are working with local police departments to investigate these incidents,” said David Gealey, U.S. Postal Inspector and Mail Fraud team leader with the USPIS Pittsburgh division.
Gealey said the last collection time at the Ingomar Post Office was 10 a.m. Sunday. Mail deposited after this time may have been affected, he said.
If a customer deposited mail after the last collection time noted on the collection box over the weekend or saw anything suspicious, Gealey asked for them to contact the Postal Inspection Service hotline at 877-876-2455.
Those involved in these break-ins could face up to five years in federal prison, Gealey said.
