Miller Minutes

Miller Minutes with Butler Eagle reporter, Molly Miller

Several of my co-workers made a splash this New Year’s Day … into the Allegheny River.

The feat certainly earned some street credit, as many friends and neighbors of mine mentioned the Eagle’s Polar Plunge subscriber campaign over the past few days. The general consensus is that the Eagle staff members are much admired for their bravery and spunk at the event!

I have never done a Polar Plunge, but I understand the sentiment behind it. The event is an opportunity to donate to charity, cross off a bucket list item, and share an experience with your friends.

These smaller goals, achieved with a simple act and some slight discomfort, create a sense of camaraderie between all the participants, even if there are hundreds around.

Community is fostered at many events throughout Butler County; the plunge serves as a great reminder to take risks and try something out of your comfort zone this year.

There are many fun events on the horizon you should clear your calendars to attend, including winter festivals, musicals and music performances, parades and more. I can guarantee pretty much all of them will provide opportunities to do or see something new, from music to food.

Below, I have listed a few opportunities to get you started over the weekend. Though there may not be many listed today, don’t fret. The citizens of Butler know how to show you a good time, all the time, all year long!

Join staff from Jennings Environmental Education Center for the Out and Back hike at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. The walk is a six mile round-trip on the North Country Trail starting at the center, 2951 Prospect Road, Slippery Rock.

The Hobnob Theatre Company has started admissions for its Young Actors Studio winter acting program! You can register children from third grade to 12th grade by visiting hobnobtheatre.com/education.
