PennDOT advises motorists to stay careful during winter

So far for Western Pennsylvania it’s been a relatively slow winter in terms of snowfall, but that may change this weekend, as a winter storm is expected to blow through the area. In addition, a wintry mix is predicted for Butler County on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

While PennDOT recommends staying at home and avoiding travel during a winter storm, that may not always be possible. In that case, PennDOT recommends that motorists remove all snow and ice from their vehicle, turn on their headlights while driving, use their defroster and wipers, increase following distance, and only drive as fast as conditions allow.

Motorists should also be extra vigilant about watching for ice on the road. In whiteout conditions, PennDOT recommends pulling over only when there is a safe space.
