Detached garage deemed total loss in Concord Township fire
A detached garage in the 800 block of Seven Hills Road in Concord Township and its contents were deemed a total loss after a fire Friday night around 9 p.m., said Chief Cody Craig of Chicora Volunteer Fire Department.
Due to the lack of municipal water in the area, Craig said water needed to be shuttled in tankers from a pond on Kramer Lane. The technique is customary in rural areas where fire hydrants are not present.
“That’s an issue for us because we need more resources to shuttle water back and forth at the scene,” Craig said.
The scene was cleared a little before midnight.
Craig said the cause of the fire was determined to be a woodburner. No cars were in the garage at the time of the fire, but two utility task vehicles, lawn mowers and a quad were damaged, he said.
Craig said the homeowners were in their residence at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Fire departments from West Sunbury, Unionville, East Butler, Petrolia, Bruin, North Washington, Emlenton, Herman, Prospect, Slippery Rock, Oneida Valley, Eau Claire and Parker City, as well as Karns City Regional Ambulance Service were called to the scene.
