Structure fire reported in Center Township

Firefighters attempt to resuscitate a dog they rescued from a house fire in the 100 block of South Benbrook Road in Center Township.

*UPDATE*

An Eagle reporter on the scene said Chief Mike Pflugh of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department told her three dogs died in the house fire, while crews are attempting to resuscitate another dog at this time.

A firefighter with Prospect Volunteer Fire Department said knocking down the blaze was hampered by the lack of fire hydrants in the area. He said Prospect hauled tankers of water to fight the fire, which slowed down the attack.

Pflugh said the basement of the home sustained the most damage in the fire.

Dispatchers at the county 911 center sent multiple crews to a structure fire on Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of South Benbrook Road in Center Township.

A firefighter who arrived on the scene shortly after the dispatch said a “working fire” was in progress.

Dispatchers initially said the basement of the house was on fire.

Crews arrived on the scene quickly, even though multiple crashes were being reported around the county due to the snowstorm.

Crashes with injuries or entrapment were reported on Myoma Road in Adams Township, Route 28 in Buffalo Township, southbound Interstate 79 in Jackson Township, and on Pittsburgh Road near McBride Station in Penn Township.

Those crashes occurred soon after the snow began piling up.

The Eagle will update information on the South Benbrook Road fire as it becomes available.
