New agency hosting blood drives at Butler Memorial Hospital
Butler Memorial Hospital’s blood bank will begin hosting drives with the Community Blood Bank of Erie, which is replacing Vitalant, the agency the hospital had previously partnered with for blood drives.
The hospital’s association with Vitalant will continue for specialized laboratory testing needs and as a secondary blood product provider, according to an email from Melissa Forster, marketing and communications specialist for Independence Health System.
The first blood drive with the Community Blood Bank of Erie will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Dimmick Center Classroom at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Donors can sign up for the blood drive by calling 1-877-842-0631, or by registering online at fourhearts.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Vitalant will have a blood drive at the Butler Eagle once a month through June, using the Bloodmobile to carry the necessary supplies.
To schedule a blood donation appointment with Vitalant, visit its website at vitalant.org. Advanced registration is not required, but it is encouraged. The dates scheduled at the Eagle for the first half the year are Feb. 8, March 14, April 11, May 16 and June 20.
