Miller Minutes

Miller Minutes with Butler Eagle reporter, Molly Miller

There’s a lot of buzz about the 2024 Golden Globes going around the internet.

If you’re not aware, the host of the 81st Golden Globes was Jo Koy, a stand up comedian, and unfortunately his wisecracks were met with radio silence from the audience.

Why didn’t the jokes land, you may ask? Most attribute it to his taking cheap shots at record-breaking films like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” and even the artists in the audience minding their business.

As an audience member to many local events, I can tell you the success of a speaker is the success of an event. Thankfully, we do a good job around Butler picking intelligent, funny emcees.

I’m no comedian but, given the recent failure of this Golden Globes host, I wonder how one becomes an emcee at some big, important event? Local leaders: This is my official petition to have me host a fancy event in Butler!

Hopefully my stage fright subsides, should this become a reality!

Anyhow, there are some events taking place this weekend in Butler County. I’m sure they’ll be better than anything Hollywood could offer.

You have two chances to see the next Keystone Opry show at the Butler Little Theatre, 1 Howard St., featuring Steve Ludwig and the Casual Hobos and Dirty Old Mill. Performances are at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at keystoneopry.com.

Create a unique art piece to take home with you following the Fur, Feathers, Mittens and Scarves event at Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road, Sarver. The class lasts from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 for Audubon Society members and $20 for nonmembers. Register at aswp.org/events.

Line dance night at Saxonburg Fireman’s Club opens its doors at 7 p.m. Saturday, with dancing starting at 8 p.m. This event is only for people age 21 or older, so make sure you have your ID! Admission is $5 for nonmembers.

From 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, have a pancake breakfast at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 10 and younger.
