Hurray strikes for 30 points

North senior paces Trojans to win at Blackhawk

Max Hurray scored 16 of his season-high 30 points in the first quarter and North Catholic’s boys basketball team rolled past host Blackhawk, 77-51, on Friday.

The Trojans (8-5, 4-1) outscored the Cougars 29-9 in the second quarter.

Hurray drained five treys. Wills Kontul scored 12 points and Jason Siket 10 in the win.

Freeport 50, Greensburg Salem 42 — Brady Sullivan scored 20 points and Gavin Glista 18 as the Yellowjackets (3-10, 1-3) snapped an eight-game losing streak.

Mars 57, Chartiers Valley 45 — The Planets improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in section play with this victory on the road.

Scoring in double figures for the Planets were Ryan Ceh (15), Austen Wroblewski (12) and Remi Black (13). Ben Detisch added eight points.

Union 48, Moniteau 31 — The Golden Knights held the Warriors to just a single point in the third quarter.

Hayden Smith paced Union (9-6) with 19 points. Moniteau dropped to 5-7 with the loss.

Seneca Valley at North Allegheny — The junior varsity and varsity games were postponed due to an electrical issue at NA’s gym. They have been rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 19.

Girls Basketball

After building a 36-14 by halftime, Moniteau put the finishing touches on a 62-32 victory at home against Union/A-C Valley.

Catherine Kelly scored 20 points in the first half and finished the game with 25 for Moniteau (11-3). Teammate Allie Pry scored 12 points.

The Falcon Knights (1-10) lost for the 10th straight time. They were led Friday by 14 points from Maddy Dehart and 11 courtesy of Kya Wetzel.

Punxsutawney 46, Karns City 36 — Brooklynn Taylor’s 13 points led the Gremlins (9-5) in this loss to the Chucks.

Junior Chloe Fritch, KC’s leading scorer, left the game in the first quarter with a knee injury.

Rifle

Butler 799(61x), Indiana 777(39x) — The Golden Tornado won this match against the Little Indians. No other details were available.
