John S. Wetick

Wetick

John S. Wetick, 88, of Butler passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at his home.

Born May 15, 1935 in Butler, he was the son of John Wetick and Mary Czap Wetick.

John served in the U.S. Army, having been drafted twice, serving from 1958 to 1960 and 1961 to 1962 in Germany with Elvis Presley.

John worked as a meat cutter for Thorofare Markets until its closing in the early 1980s. He then began working at Butler Farm Market, where he worked as a meat manager from its opening in 1983 until his retirement in 1998. He spent many years as a part-time mechanic for Jack's Wheelhorse Tractor Sales. He continued his hard work and dedication by working at Fox Funeral Home as a right-hand man for 17 years, until his official retirement at age 81. He served on the Saxonburg Area Authority and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Butler.

He enjoyed hunting, especially his trips to Wyoming. His other hobbies included fishing, cooking, gardening, canning, and fixing anything that needed to be fixed. John was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He spent many years helping “the guys” cook chickens for many area fundraisers. He had the best smile, the biggest heart and a love for all animals. Spending time with family was most important to him.

Surviving are his daughter, Janelle (Brian) Fox of Butler; two sons, Eric (Rachel) Wetick of Butler and Donald (Sharon) Burns of Butler; two sisters, Rosalie (Tom) Snyder of Butler and Marge Wetick of Butler; his brother, Robert (Donna) Wetick of Milford, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Bryson (fiancée Christine) Fox, Braden Fox and Sophia Wetick.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Wetick on May 18, 2012; and one brother, Peter Wetick.
