Police: Man in critical condition after assault Wednesday in Franklin Township

A man, who was struck multiple times in the head, is in critical condition and was flown to the hospital from a Franklin Township restaurant Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 17, according to police.

The person suspected of committing the assault has been identified, but is not yet in custody, Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer with Troop D, said Friday.

“Charges could be filed before he is in custody,” she said.

During a Friday afternoon interview with the Eagle, Cazy did not identify the suspect or the man who was assaulted.

Cazy said troopers responded to the motel portion of Michael’s Restaurant on Route 422 just after 4 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a man who was assaulted.

The man was struck multiple times in the head, Cazy said. He was then flown by medical helicopter from the restaurant to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh and is considered in critical condition, she said.

On Friday, Cazy said she could not identify what sort of weapon was used during the assault.

Witnesses to the assault were interviewed at the scene, she said, and troopers are still actively investigating the assault.

This is believed to be an isolated case and there is not a threat to the public at this time, according to a state police news release.
