Moniteau graduate gets PSAC honor
SLIPPERY ROCK — Moniteau graduate Kendall Grossman, a senior pole vaulter at Slippery Rock University, has been named PSAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Grossman hit the NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault for the third straight meet, clearing 3.70 meters to finish second overall at the Ashland Invitational. She has all of the top three pole vault performances in the PSAC so far this season.
SRU guard Austin top defensive player
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University guard Maceo Austin has been named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Austin totaled seven steals, six blocks and 20 rebounds while averaging 23.5 points per game against Pitt-Johnstown and Gannon. SRU defeated UPJ, 80-77, and dropped a 95-90 overtime decision to Gannon.
SR’s Plank PAC’s Swimmer of Week
GROVE CITY — Slippery Rock resident and Portersville Christian graduate Emma Plank, a junior at Grove City College, has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Plank won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 4.37 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 2:19.38 — fourth-fastest time in the PAC this season — in the Wolverines’ 148-59 win over Washington & Jefferson.
She was also second in the 100 butterfly and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
Mars hockey players PIHL All-Stars
ADAMS TWP — Three Mars Area High School hockey players have been selected to play in the PIHL Class A All-Star Gold Game at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 28 the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center.
The players are senior forward Ben Olshenske, junior forward Ben Bowser and junior goalie Adam Goul.
