Harrisville, Marion update police agreement, raise officers’ pay

HARRISVILLE — Borough council approved an updated contract for police services with Marion Township on Monday, Jan. 22, that would increase officers’ hourly pay by $2.

The contract is a regional agreement between the municipalities that allows Harrisville’s police officers to patrol Boyers and Marion Township, including portions of Routes 308 and 58, and Boyers and Forestville roads.

The resolution passed unanimously at the meeting Monday. It reads Marion Township will pay officers $36 an hour for up to 15 hours per week. The hourly pay was amended around June to $34 from the initial $31, Marion supervisor Jason McBride said in a previous interview.

McBride said the contract was also amended around that time to extend police coverage in the township from 10 hours to 15 hours.

The agreement is in place through Dec. 31, 2025.

The resolution follows months of contention over concerns about the contract’s legitimacy, during which council was temporarily unable to locate the original document. Councilman Gary Wray said members of council then met with Marion Township representatives to work out the details of the contract.

Marion supervisors signed the revised agreement in January.

Now that it is approved by council, the resolution needs only to be signed by Harrisville’s representatives, solicitor Ben Orsatti said after Monday’s meeting.
