Unseasonably warm, wet weather causes fog Thursday
Spring is still two months away, but as far as the weather in Butler County this week is concerned, it may as well already be March.
This morning, residents woke up to dense fog, light rain and unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid-50s. The pattern will continue on Friday, with temperatures expected to reach 56 degrees, along with forecasts of patchy fog and a 30% chance of rain.
“We had a shift in the weather pattern and we’re getting winds from the south, and we’ve been having that for a few days,” said meteorologist Shannon Hefferan of the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. “So that's what's causing the warm air.”
For the rest of the week, temperatures will settle back to around the freezing point, with highs of 45 on Saturday, 41 on Sunday, and 37 on Monday.
Sunday night may also bring a wintry mix to Butler, as temperatures are expected to hit a low of 31 and the chance of precipitation is at 50%. However, if snow does come, accumulation is expected to be minimal.
“There might be some snow up in the in the ridges, but accumulation-wise, we’re not seeing anything too bad,” Hefferan said. “Early Monday morning there could be maybe half an inch.”
