Butler boys DMR posts fastest time in state

Butler’s boys distance medley relay team of Zach Slear, Landon Lacey, Ethan Thomas and Drew Griffith ran a time of 10 minutes, 27.24 seconds Saturday at the TSTCA meet held at Edinboro on Saturday. The time is the fastest in Pennsylvania high school indoor competition so far this season.

It also marks the third fastest time in Butler history.

Orein McBride-Cager won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 3 inches. The Golden Tornado boys also won a pair of relay races. Chris Rubcic, Lacey, Aaron Stebick and David Graef won the 4x200 relay in 1:31.31. Rubsic, Stebick, Jacob Fallecker and Kevin Shriver won the 4x400 in 3:35.22.

On the girls side, Grace Nichols paved second in the high jump for Butler.

Slippery Rock — A few Slippery Rock athletes competed at the Ohio Preview meet hosted by SPIRE Institute.

Placing fourth for the Rockets were Dustin Joyce in the boys triple jump and Samantha Montgomery in the girls triple jump. Eli Anderson placed fifth in the boys 60-meter hurdles.

Wrestling

Knoch competed in the Sharon Duals over the weekend, finishing 2-3. The Knights defeated Beaver County Christian 54-18 and Erie, 53-18. Losses came to Bellefonte (48-24), Freedom (48-30) and Girard (45-30).

Parker Anderson and Wyatt Foster both went 5-0 on the day with four pins for the Knights. Brayden McGowan went 3-1 with three pins, Cam Elliott 3-1 with two pins.

Girls Basketball

Butler sank 12 3-pointers in scoring a 63-48 road win at Plum on Saturday. Amelia McMichael led the Golden Tornado with 22 points while Jessica Chwalik chipped in with 15.

The Tornado took a seven-point lead into the third quarter and pulled away from there.

Boys Basketball

Taite Beighley scored 26 points and Karns City put together a furious rally late, but fell short in a 68-62 loss to DuBois on Saturday night.

Hobie Bartoe added 10 points for the Gremlins (11-5). Jacob Callihan scored nine points.

Tyson Kennis paced DuBois (11-5) with 23 points while Cam Thompson added 20.
