Police: Woman loses thousands to phone scam
A Portersville woman was scammed out of thousands of dollars after someone mimicked her grandson’s voice on the phone, according to state police.
Documents show the woman received a call in October 2023, and the person on the line identified himself as her grandson.
Police said the caller told her he was in legal trouble and needed money, and the woman shipped $4,000 via UPS to a California address. She told police she discovered the call was a scam, but by then the money already had been delivered.
According to documents, police have no suspects at this time.
