NEW WILMINGTON — Westminster College is a solid choice for students looking to climb the economic ladder after graduation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Colleges ranking released this academic year.
Ranked No. 16 in the nation in the report’s Top Performers on Social Mobility list, Westminster — also named a top-tiered Best National Liberal Arts College — is recognized for providing accessible and affordable education to all students with ability and motivation.
The Top Performers list assesses how well colleges graduate economically disadvantaged students, who — according to U.S. News — are less likely to finish college. U.S. News looked at the graduation rates of Pell Grant-awarded students. Pell Grant recipients come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000.
This is the fifth consecutive year U.S. News has awarded Westminster a top 20 national spot as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country for low-income students — a true sign of our commitment to student success.
Additionally, Washington Monthly — which focuses on schools that contribute to the public good — named Westminster among the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the country.
Washington Monthly’s College Guide highlights schools that have made “contributions to the public good” by measuring social mobility, research, and community and national service.
Westminster’s strong showing reflects an emphasis on special programming and support services such as its TRIO Student Support Services, which offers services and resources to first-generation, income-eligible students and students with disabilities to ensure they successfully navigate college.
