Raymond “Ray” Schmidt, 85, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Sharpsburg and Saxonburg, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, while under the care of Grove Manor nursing home.

Born on July 5, 1938, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Lillian Wernert Schmidt.

Ray loved the outdoors, gardening, cutting the grass, playing golf, softball or making sure he got his 10,000 steps in a day walking. He spent many years camping in Meadville at Brookdale KOA with his family. He loved games and especially enjoyed trivia, cornhole and playing a competitive game of “Jeopardy!” with his wife every night. His favorite hobby was taking care of his beloved pets. He loved his time with family and friends and will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Ray leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and cherished wife of 38 years, Ruth; his children, Robin Guest, Joyce (Rick) Rezzetano, Ann (Jeff) Stockert and Lisa (David) Cooper Dudney; his grandchildren, Brenden Guest, Nathan Rezzetano, Lee (Alyssa) Rezzetano, Nick (Maggie) Stockert and Josh (Samantha) Stockert; his sister, Lorraine Schmidt Weber; and several nephews and nieces.

SCHMIDT — Friends of Raymond “Ray” Schmidt, who died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, will be received from noon until the time of the celebration of life service and military honors at 3 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew, with Pastor Reid Moon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's honor to the Butler Humane Society at butlercountyhs.org or Orphans of the Storm in Kittanning at orphansofthestorm-pa.org.
