Defense keys Knoch girls hoop win
Liv Foster scored 16 points and Naturelle Ewing added 10 as the Knoch girls basketball team rolled past Valley, 49-11, on Monday night.
The Knights (12-8, 7-4) outscored the Vikings 19-0 in the first quarter. Knoch sank eight 3-pointers in the game.
Neveah Lyle led Valley with six points. Knoch hosts North Catholic on Thursday night.
North Clarion 41, Karns City 34 — Naomi Venesky scored 16 points for the Gremlins. Brooklynn Taylor added eight.
Lily Homan paced North Clarion with 15 points. Karns City had a 26-21 lead through three quarters, but was outscored 20-8 in the final eight minutes.
Butler 71, Hempfield 51 — The Golden Tornado (5-15, 2-7) rolled to their second section win of the season. Amelia McMichael scored 25 points while Sydney Patterson added 15 and Avery Maier 12 for Butler.
Butler scored 24 points in the third quarter to pull away. Ashley Hosni scored 16 points and Ava Shipman 14 for Hempfield (8-12, 1-8).
The Tornado host Pine-Richland at 6 p.m. on Friday.
North HIlls 57, Mars 31 — Alexis Cashdollar sank a trio of treys and scored 10 points to lead the Planets (10-9, 6-4). Olivia Waters led North Hills (11-8, 8-2) with 16 points.
Ginna Sturdivant netted 15 points and Jayden Arnette14 for the Indians.
Mars hosts New Castle on Thursday for its final section game. The varsity-only game begins at 6 p.m.
Cranberry 39, Union/A-C Valley 25 — Kya Wetzel tallied eight points, four rebounds and four assists for the Falcon Knights, Maddy Dehart eight points and five steals. Nevaeh Smith had six rebounds, Ava Strauser five.
Indoor Track and Field
Butler’s mile relay team of Carter Ekas, Kevin Shriver, Austin Dietrich and Griffin Bauer came in first place during competition at Edinboro University on Saturday. Shriver placed third in the 200 meters in 23.59 seconds.
Much of the Golden Tornado’s boys and girls indoor unit competed at the Spire Scholastic Showcase on Sunday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. There were 192 schools competing from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland and Canada.

Slippery Rock — Dustin Joyce took first place in the boys triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 4.75 inches for the Rockets as Slippery Rock competed in the Jerome Fields Invitational in Akron over the weekend.
Joyce also reset his own school record in the long jump at 21 feet, 4 inches.
