Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company to purchase $1.3M truck
CRANBERRY TWP — On Thursday, Feb. 1, the board of supervisors voted unanimously to approve more than $1.3 million for the purchase of a new firetruck for the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company.
The board approved a purchase order of $1,355,651 to replace a 2009 rescue truck.
The anticipated delivery date for the truck is 2028.
“We have an all-volunteer volunteer fire company in Cranberry Township, and they provide a huge service to this community,” said Daniel Santoro, township manager. “We need to provide that volunteer fire department the tools they need in order to meet the demands of this community.”
Fire chief Scott Garing said a new truck will help address issues that may come up with the increase in population in the township.
“With the people who are moving in here, our calls increase just as much,” Garing said. “And so do the demands on the organizations.”
Cranberry Township currently owns 12 fire vehicles, according to Garing.
The new truck will focus “solely on life safety within the community in regards to rescue situations,” Garing said.
“It’s going to have expanded abilities for rescuing people in just about any situation,” he said.
The truck will also be used in rapid intervention situations, such as saving injured firefighters.
