Police identify pedestrian struck Monday on Route 8, investigation ongoing
Butler Township police have identified the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Monday evening, Feb. 5, on Route 8 north of the Greater Butler Mart.
Michael J. Freeman, 45, of Butler, was crossing Route 8 when he was struck in the northbound lane, according to a Tuesday news release.
Police said Sabatino A. Marano, 32, of East Brady, was driving north in the right lane on Route 8 when he struck Freeman around 7:20 p.m. Monday.
Freeman was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler Ambulance Service and flown via LifeFlight helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital for his injuries.
Butler County dispatchers said the northbound lanes were closed while crews responded. The lanes were reopened by 8:15 p.m.
The crash is still under investigation, according to police.
Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and Butler Bureau of Fire also responded to the crash.
