DHS warns of SNAP benefit scam
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is alerting Pennsylvanians of a scam targeting people who receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
The scam involves an email from “experience@travelfoodstampassistanceforyou.com” and states SNAP recipients may be eligible for a settlement payment if they provide personal information.
The department, in a statement, said informational text messages, sent from 1-833-648-1964, will not include details about a person’s benefits, requests for personal information or links to unofficial sites.
Reports of suspicious texts or calls about DHS benefits can be made by calling the DHS fraud tip line at 1-844-347-8477 or by calling the Public Assistance Fraud Tipline at 1-800-932-0582.
