Greb twins going separate ways
JEFFERSON TWP — Together, Lindsey and Emily Greb produced plenty on the tennis court for Knoch High School.
The senior twins were part of three WPIAL titles and two state championships as a team with the Knights. As a doubles tandem, they claimed a pair of WPIAL crowns and a state title.
Soon, they will be going their separate ways.
Lindsey recently signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and tennis career at Saint Francis University in Loretto. She plans to major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Med. Emily recently signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and tennis career at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she will major in engineering.
“It will feel weird not playing tennis with Lindsey anymore. We’ve played together for so long,” Emily said. “It will definitely be different.”
“We knew we wouldn’t wind up at the same school,” Lindsey said. “Our majors were too different. We had to go to the schools that were right for us.”
Their older sister, Laura, is a junior at the University of Dayton and plays for the tennis team there.
Saint Francis tennis coach Eric Hoban has been with the Red Flash for three seasons. His team is 3-4 so far this year, 2-0 in Northeast Conference play. The program won a school-record 10 matches in 2022-23.
“They have 12 players on the team and nine of them will be coming back next year,” Lindsey said. “I’m definitely going to have to earn my spot in terms of playing time.
“I’ve probably got a better chance to get on the court as a doubles player.”
Tom Linhart, Jr., has been the head tennis coach at RIT for five years. The team is off to a 2-0 start this year after coming off three successive losing seasons, including a 6-11 overall record last year.
Only two of the eight players on this year’s team are seniors.
“The program is in the midst of a turnaround,” Emily said. “They brought in a good class of freshmen last year and my class coming in is pretty good, too. I’m looking forward to improving my game while helping the team to improve as well.”
Emily also considered Pitt, Penn State and Dayton before opting for RIT. While her academics come first, she admitted she’s not ready to stop playing tennis.
“It’s been a big part of my life,” she said. “I’m just not ready to give up the game. While it will be strange not being on the court with Lindsey, I am looking forward to meeting and playing with other people at the next level.”
Lindsey said she’s looking forward to taking the next step as well.
“I want to improve my game over the next four years and just have fun playing,” Lindsey said. “Saint Francis has been a good team in the NEC and I’m excited about joining the program.”
