Emergency departments get state grants

Fire, rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) companies within Pennsylvania’s 8th and 11th Legislative Districts have been awarded state grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

State Reps. Marci Mustello, R-11th, and Aaron Bernstine, R-8th, announced the grants Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Butler County departments receiving the grants include Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, $15,201; Butler Ambulance Service, $15,000; Butler Bureau of Fire, $16,174; Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, $42,563; Chicora Community Hose and Relief Association, $15,000; Chicora Community Hose and Relief Association, $15,979; East Butler Volunteer Fire Department, $13,451; East Butler Volunteer Fire Department (EMS), $15,000; Karns City Regional Ambulance Service, $15,000; Oakland Township Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Company, $14,229; Sarver Volunteer Fire Company, $15,396; Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, $15,396; Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company (EMS), $9,936; Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, $16,563; Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Service, $15,000; Harmony Emergency Medical Services, $10,000; Harmony Fire District, $29,952; Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, $13,645; Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, $14,229; Pennsylvania Medical Transport, $15,000; Portersville Muddy Creek Volunteer EMS, $10,000; Portersville Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, $14,034; Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, $14,034; Quality Emergency Medical Service, $15,000; Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, $16,174; and West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, $15,007.

Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt, according to a news release from Mustello’s office.

All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue, the news release said.
