Jennifer Lopez says Ayo Edebiri apologized after calling her career ‘one long scam’
NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez opened up about the grace she extended to Ayo Edebiri after clips of the actress talking trash about her popped up on social media.
Days before Edebiri was set to host “Saturday Night Live” with Lopez booked as a musical guest, audio resurfaced from a 2020 podcast on Edebiri was heard calling J.Lo’s musical career “one long scam,” adding she can’t sing.
But in a Variety cover story published Tuesday, Lopez brushed off the comments.
“ I’ve heard similar things said about me throughout my career , so it really didn’t affect me,” she said.
Lopez, 54, went on to reveal Edebiri was visibly embarrassed when they came face to face in the days leading up to Feb. 3’s live “SNL” broadcast.
“She was mortified and very sweet,” Lopez recalled. “She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things.
“She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform,” Lopez continued.
During the “SNL” episode, Edebiri did a make-good when she appeared in a self-deprecating sketch, poking fun about dissing people on social media.
“It’s wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout — or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid,” she joked.

LAS VEGAS — Usher and longtime partner Jenn Goicoechea married in Las Vegas just hours after his Super Bowl halftime show, according to documents. The officiant who wed the pair is known to dress as an Elvis Presley impersonator.
The couple married Sunday at Vegas Weddings, according to a marriage certificate made public Monday. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Ronald Joseph Polrywka, better known locally as Ron DeCar. Witnesses included Jonnetta Patton, Usher's mother.
Usher, 45, and Goicoechea, 40, have been together since 2019 and have two young daughters.
A representative for Usher, Lydia Kanuga, confirmed the marriage Tuesday. “Usher and Jennifer Goicoechea took the next step in their relationship and did get married on Sunday night in Las Vegas surrounded by close friends and family," it read. "They both look forward to continuing to raise their children together surrounded by love and thank everyone for the well wishes.”

Dolly Parton is taking the high road when it comes to Elle King‘s “horrible” and “profane” tribute that angered fans last month.
Parton broke her silence about the eyebrow-raising incident that led the Grand Ole Opry to issue a public apology.
“Elle is really a great artist,” Parton said about the birthday concert at the storied Nashville venue.
“She’s a great girl, and she’s been going through a lot of hard things lately. And she just had a little too much to drink. So, let’s just forgive that and forget it and move on, ’cause she felt worse than anybody ever could.”
Fan footage of King forgetting the lyrics to Parton’s “Marry Me” and cursing on stage quickly circulated on social media shortly after the Jan. 19 concert. “Don’t tell Dolly because it’s her birthday,” she sang.
Parton, who celebrated her 78th birthday by releasing a deluxe version of her “Rockstar” opus, was not present during the expletive-laden performance, which also featured other acts.
The audience quickly turned on the banjo-playing singer after she told them she was “hammered” and they were not getting refunds.
“Elle King ruined the night with her horrible, drunk and profane performance,” one fan lamented on X.
The Opry responded the next day, writing, “we deeply regret and apologize for the language used during last night’s second Opry performance.”
King, 34, daughter of comedic actor Rob Schneider, has yet to address the performance.

Kanye West seemingly hoped to upstage Taylor Swift and reignite their age-old feud at last weekend’s Super Bowl — but Swift thwarted his alleged plans.
The newly minted 14-time Grammy winner, 34, allegedly got the embattled rapper, 46, booted from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas after learning he’d purchased seats in front of her suite for the showdown between Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
“Typical Kanye. Taylor Swift ... — she boom-boom makes a call or two. Everybody’s involved. He gets kicked out the stadium,” Brandon Marshall, formerly of the Denver Broncos, said on his “Paper Route” podcast .
It’s unclear how Marshall heard about West’s alleged intentions or whether Swift was really responsible for booting him from the stadium before her boyfriend’s team won the Super Bowl in overtime.
West and his wife, Bianca Censori, were reportedly photographed at the game, with West wearing a face covering featuring a white crucifix.
