Seneca Valley edges out Butler in the water
Tyler Snow (200-yard IM), Thomas Pichieri (100 butterfly), and Braden Rubinosky (500 freestyle) all had individual triumphs as host Seneca Valley barely edged Butler out, 90-88, in a WPIAL Section 2-3A dual meet Thursday night.
The Raiders (6-7) also had a win in the 400 relay, with that quartet being made up of Caden Stahl, Colin Stevens, Rubinosky, and Snow.
In a strong effort by the Golden Tornado, Noah Collins came out on top in the 200 and 100 freestyles. He qualified for the WPIAL Championship meet with a time of 49.55 seconds in the latter event. Ben Grossman also met the needs for districts with a time of 1:03.36 in the 100 breaststroke.
Jackson Morgus (100 backstroke) and Keaton Matteson (50 freestyle) also had solo victories.
Seneca Valley (girls) 108, Butler 78 — The trio of senior Bella Kling, sophomore Morgan Baker, and freshman Katie Bookwalter shined for the Raiders (12-1), but it was the team’s 400 freestyle relay that stole the show.
That quartet, which consisted of Sasha Myers, Audrey Wolfe, Alissa Wilson, and Baker, set a pool record with a time of 3:35.85 in that race.
Kling (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) was a double winner, while Brynn Flatt (500 freestyle) and Katie Bookwalter (100 breaststroke) also had individual wins for Seneca Valley.
The Golden Tornado notched wins from Addison Vance (200 IM), Rylee Pflugh (50 freestyle), and Emma Pflugh (100 freestyle).
Both teams will have members compete in the Last-Ditch meet later this week, hoping to add more qualifiers for the WPIAL Championship meet.
