Play ‘defies the limits of human understanding of time and space’

A play opening this weekend at the Butler Little Theatre is a nonlinear look at a couple’s relationship, highlighting moments of love, conflict and despair.

“Constellations” by Nick Payne opens at the BLT at One Howard St. on Friday, Feb. 16, and runs until Feb. 24.

The show is a love story about an unlikely romance between Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a physicist. After a chance encounter at a barbecue, the possibility of a spark seems unlikely, but what happens next defies the limits of human understanding of time and space. “Constellations” explores how even the smallest change in our lives can dramatically alter the course we take, according to BLT’s website.

The cast includes Casey Bowser, of Butler, as Roland, and Megan Flannery, also of Butler, as Marianne. The play is directed by Brooke Echnat of Fox Chapel, and Britt Kolek, of Freeport, is the production stage manager. The play contains adult language and situations, according to a news release from BLT.

Showtimes for the play are 8 p.m. Feb. 16, 17, 23 and 24; 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20, 21 and 22; and 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18. All tickets are $15.
