One person was taken to a hospital following an incident involving hazardous materials at an oil refinery in Karns City on Sunday night, Feb. 25, according to county dispatchers.

Crews responded to the Calumet plant about 10:30 p.m. According to a statement from the plant, the incident involved a third-party worker.

The Monday statement indicated the worker was unloading a truck and experienced minor injuries. The worker received treatment and has been released.

“There was no impact to the environment from this incident. Calumet remains committed to safe and environmentally responsible operations,” the release said.

Officials said the worker was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Karns City Regional Ambulance Service.

Chicora Independent Hose Company and Butler County’s hazardous materials response team 100 were dispatched to the scene but were released shortly after by plant representatives.
