ZELIENOPLE — Nonuniformed employees of the borough will receive a 2.75% raise.

The Zelienople council unanimously voted on Monday, Feb. 26, to increase the annual salary of nonunion employees. The raise, which was recommended by the human resources committee, will go into effect during the first pay period of April, according to borough manager Andrew Spencer.

“Each year the (human resource committee) makes a salary increase pool that they set,” Spencer said. “This year they recommended a 2.75 increase.”

The raise is for members not part of the collective bargaining agreement and usually follows the police collective bargaining amount for the year, according to Spencer.

The raise is an increase from last year’s 2.5% raise.

The council also voted unanimously to increase Police Chief James Miller’s salary by 2.75%.

“(Miller’s) position is unique,” said council president Mary Hess. “He’s not part of the collective bargaining even though he’s with the police.”

Miller has been police chief for 27 years.

“We are thankful to have Jim,” Hess said.
