Donations from Mason Martin fundraiser more than double at Sugarcreek Elementary
Since former teachers of Mason Martin raised approximately $7,000 during a fundraiser for the injured Karns City quarterback earlier this month, the amount raised for the Martin family has more than doubled.
One of the event organizers, Mary Twentier, said the Martin family will receive $15,654, thanks to additional contributions and an anonymous donor who matched the funds raised at the Sugarcreek Elementary School fundraiser.
A check will be presented to Martin’s sisters at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, said Twentier, a fifth-grade teacher who played a key role in planning the Mason Strong Shoot-A-Thon.
Students in kindergarten through sixth-grade at Sugarcreek Elementary participated in the Shoot-A-Thon in early February and were assisted by the fifth-grade class and student council members. Parents and community members could donate a flat fee or sponsor a student for each soccer goal kicked or basket shot in the gymnasium.
One student collected $1,174, Twentier stated.
“We are overwhelmed with the support of everyone,” she said.
