Heavy wind expected Wednesday, potential snow tonight

Butler County could see some heavy wind resulting from a storm system blowing through the area Wednesday morning, Feb. 28.

According to meteorologists at the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh, a wind advisory is in effect throughout Wednesday and into the evening, with gusts exceeding 30 mph.

“What we’re looking for today is showers and thunderstorms before 3 o’clock this afternoon,” said Lee Hendricks, a meteorologist with the weather service.

He said the rain will persist throughout the day from some heavier, dispersed showers, but not to expect flooding conditions.

The wind, however, is expected to blow consistently at 18 to 22 mph this afternoon, with gusts up to 32 mph. Those speeds could increase into the nighttime hours, Hendricks said.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day, making the afternoon feel around 36 degrees, according to Hendricks. This will allow the rain to potentially change to snow, but only half an inch of accumulation is expected by Thursday.

“I think this will be one of those snows that just sticks to the grass,” he said.
