Truck strikes LIFE building
A truck delivering supplies struck the LIFE Butler County building on West Diamond Street Wednesday morning causing damage to the entrance and temporarily disrupting some services the agency provides to senior citizens.
A box truck hit a corner of the awning over the entrance around 7:20 a.m. as it was pulling out of the parking lot and caused the awning to collapse, according to the Butler Bureau of Fire.
Butler police said the truck ripped off the awning. The driver remained at the scene and provided information. The truck was able to be driven after the crash, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The truck was delivering medical supplies when it hit the awning before the building opened, said Harold Aughton, marketing and facilities management director for Lutheran SeniorLife, which owns the facility.
No participants in LIFE’s services were inside, but a handful of employees were there, he said. The center opens at 8 a.m.
“The center remains closed until deemed structurally safe,” Aughton said.
Repairs to the entrance and roof will be needed, he said.
The home health service provided by LIFE will continue without interruption, he said. Services provided at the center will be suspended until it reopens, he said.
The truck struck the portico and support posts and the crash damaged the roof, but interior damage was minimal, he said.
