Albert “Al” Hammer, 79, of Cabot, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

He was born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 1, 1945, to the late Albert and Helen Hammer.

Al attended the University of Pittsburgh before honorably serving in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam on the USS Reeves (DLG-24) from 1965 to 1967. He was employed at H J Heinz Co. for 35 years, before retiring as a computer systems analyst.

Al loved astronomy, model railroading, golf, baseball/softball and music from the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for appreciating his longtime friends, especially Dan, Gary and Mack, and not following the crowd. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America and supporter of the VFW and DAV.

Al was the beloved husband of Nancy Hammer for 55 years; father of Jennifer (Luke) Holbrook and James (Jill) Hammer; brother of Gary (Debbie) Hammer and Deborah Hall; and grandfather of Lydia Holbrook. Al also was known to be loved by all dogs.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center for their great care of Al.

HAMMER — Services for Albert “Al” Hammer, who died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, were held privately through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Concordia Haven 3 Chapel, 160 Marwood Road, Entrance 6, Cabot.

Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Good Samaritan Endowment Fund, 148 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
