Police share details on Jackson Township crash between 2 military vehicles
State police on Tuesday, March 12, released more details about a crash involving two military vehicles on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township earlier this month.
Zachary Korotko, 21, of Monroeville, suffered injuries to his legs from the March 2 crash, where the military vehicle he was driving rear-ended a second military vehicle, police said.
According to documents, the crash occurred near mile marker 87 at the interstate’s on ramp when a black sedan merging onto the road pulled in front of a military truck driven by Owen Hartwig, 22, of Ohio. The sedan’s driver was not identified.
Hartwig braked suddenly in order to avoid striking the sedan and was rear-ended by the vehicle driven by Korotko, police said. Hartwig and his passenger reported no injuries.
Officials said Korotko’s legs were trapped under the dashboard and another passenger was uninjured. Documents showed Korotko was taken to the hospital by Harmony EMS ambulance.
The military vehicle driven by Hartwig was driven away from the scene and Korotko’s military vehicle was towed by the U.S. Army, according to police.
