Thank a doctor on Doctors’ Day

Physicians at Butler Memorial Hospital received a lot of messages for National Doctors’ Day last year, when the BHS Foundation created an online form for people to thank doctors they’ve interacted with at the hospital.

The BHS Foundation once again is opening up submissions for thanking physicians at the hospital for this year’s Doctors’ Day, March 30, and the BHS Foundation and the three other foundations in Independence Health System are adding a fundraising component.

Kris Bowser, development manager for the foundation, said last year was the first time they opened up personal submissions for Doctors’ Day. The fundraising aspect of the initiative this year is just an extra piece for those interested in donating to their local hospital, she said.

“It's to honor special doctors who made a difference in your life or the life of someone you love,” Bowser said. “We had a lot of messages last year, and it's a nice way to recognize the physicians.”

The foundation’s website now has a page for Doctors’ Day, which lets people select a department at an Independence Health System hospital to write a personalized message to. People also can donate on the site. According to Bowser, money can be given to BHS Foundation, Clarion Hospital Foundation, Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation or Westmoreland/Frick Foundation.

“This was a collaboration with the marketing team as well as all the foundation teams,” Bowser said. “We're collaborating, but all of the funds raised are staying within each community or each foundation.”

Bowser said the messages will be sent to doctors by March 30.

“It's very nice to send a message, it makes them feel appreciated,” Bowser said.
