Rock baseball splits doubleheader

Former Slippery Rock University baseball player Chase Rowe was presented as the new Slippery Rock Sliders manager at a news conference at Critchfield Park Monday.

The Slippery Rock University baseball team responded to a 2-1 home loss to Pitt-Johnstown with a 5-2 triumph in the second game of Friday’s twin bill. The split, which opened division play for the Rock, moved the team to a 9-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in PSAC West action.

Michael Kitko had a pair of multi-hit performances on the day. Along with the 4-for-6, 2-RBI combined effort at the dish, he threw two scoreless innings and recorded his second save of the go-round in the latter contest.

In that same outing, SRU plated the first four runs and never looked back.
